Ha's Story
Ha married an American citizen and moved from Vietnam to America. Upon arrival in America, Ha found it very difficult to communicate. Her husband found the literacy council and arranged for Ha to start classes.
Juan's Story
Juan was an assistant manager of a restaurant in Mexico City when he decided to move to the United States in 2004. Juan has been studying English in the Literacy Council’s ESL program and is pleased with his improvement.
Angelica's Story
After living in Chile for most of her life, Angelica made the move to America with her daughter. After several years of getting by, Angelica decided it was time to learn English.
Abigail's Story
Abigail was determined to get back to school and finish her high school education. She enrolled in our GED program and, being a sleep-deprived new mom, she faithfully attended her GED classes and studied relentlessly.
Luke and Nina’s Story
English is “hard to learn”, but Luke is now an intermediate-level student with a solid grasp of the language basics. Nina, too, now has a tutor at the Literacy Council and is one of the fastest learners in our program.
