Brandi Miller is the new Executive Director of the Literacy Council of Southwestern PA.  She has an extensive background in nonprofit organizations, volunteering, and community outreach. Brandi started on January 2, 2019.
She grew up in the North Huntingdon/Irwin area, graduating from Norwin Senior High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA.  She currently resides in Washington County, with her husband Shane, and her dog Harley. She enjoys hiking and taking motorcycle rides with her husband.
In addition to her previous work with non-profits, Brandi volunteers and does fundraising for community organizations and nonprofit entities. She is a member of many local organizations, including Rotary, BPW, Chamber of Commerce, and Young Professional groups. She is also active in her local Church, Immaculate Conception.
Brandi is excited about the opportunity to bring her energy, enthusiasm, and operational abilities to the service of the Literacy Council. She is dedicated to setting a clear and bold vision for the future of LCSWPA by building and maintaining relationships in the community and by getting the word out that the Literacy Council is vibrant, thriving, and continuing to grow.
Brandi said that one of her goals is to make the community more aware of the services LCSWPA offers. Up to the task, she said, “I would like to increase our community awareness with the problems of adult literacy and make the community more aware of our services so we can reach more people. When we reach more people, we will need more funds. I’d love to increase our fundraising efforts and research more grant opportunities.”
The Literacy Council has helped adults and their families by giving the gift of reading, writing, and language skills to adults, thereby empowering economic opportunity, a sense of community, and a higher quality of life for all people through literacy. The Literacy Council in collaboration with Intermediate Unit 1 provides free adult tutoring services through our Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language and High School Equivalency exam programs. LCSWPA supports the families of the students by offering a Children’s Literacy program, free childcare and the signature Baby Book Bag program.
